OTAGO CRICKET PATHWAYS

GOAL

Our driving goal within the Performance and Talent environment is to;

Create outstanding structure, support, and people that inspire and produce the best player’s, coaches and support staff.Planned and delivered well and with passion and energy, we believe we will create strong and competitive Otago teams at all levels and produce quality BLACKCAPS and WHITEFERNS in the future.

PHILOSOPHY

Our philosophy at Otago Cricket is to take a player first holistic view and for our experienced and motivated talent coaches to place the player at the centre of development through coherent and consistent development practice.

ENVIRONMENT

The Performance and Talent environment is one of two essential core ingredient operational areas at Otago cricket (the other being Community Cricket)

Please refer to Otago Cricket’s pathway map for a clear outline of the structure of cricket which begins with the delivery of grass roots cricket programmes (traditional and modified), moves into regional and national age group representation, the development of talented age group players, culminating in participation at domestic and International level

Our Performance and Talent environment oversee and supports identified youth athletes who have demonstrated the passion, desire, attitude and skill to be first class cricketers and provides these young men and women with the appropriate development and pathway opportunities and coach resource to reach their potential.

COMMITMENT TO PLAYER GROWTH

Otago Cricket is committed to supporting the development of outstanding qualified coaches to assist our talented players to succeed.   Several important parts form our process including talent identification, playing opportunities, access to excellent facilities, along with quality coaching support.

Through NZC tournaments, playing opportunities are provided that offer to benchmark against the best players in the country.  Otago Age group sides can represent Otago Cricket at National Tournaments, from U17, U19, U21 Women and National Provincial A. Beyond this level players will be involved in domestic Cricket playing for either the Otago Volts across three domestic competition formats or for the SBS Bank Otago Sparks.  Through the NZC pathway, young players can represent NZ at age group level and compete at U19 Cricket World Cups.
